The “e” in any name indicates environmentally friendly motorized transportation. The “e” has even reached the world of muscle power mobility products like bicycles. The “e” divides the usually tight knit mountainbike community. For some people, the e-mountainbike is pure pleasure in shredding without having to work out too much. For others, the “e” is the destruction of the mountainbike lifestyle. “e” -Mountainbikes are increasingly on the rise and have become an unstoppable element in the growth of the bicycle industry. This development hasn‘t passed us by either; we are also sat around the table discussing e bikes. However NICOLAI doesn‘t represent the rather controversial positions on this topic. Within our company we have somewhat ambivalent attitudes towards E-bikes. However, we have reached a consensus and established the following key points in the rough specifications: • An e-mountainbike must remain just as maneuverable as a normal mountainbike despite the additional weight of the motor and battery. • The electric motor must be quiet • They must be easily ridable even without the motor • What matters is not the absolute system power, but the balance between excess weight and performance.
