Gates ready? In order to fit a bike with the Gates Carbon Drive system, certain technical requirements must be met. The frame needs a break in the drive side of the rear triangle in order to insert the belt as the belt cannot be split. To achieve this we‘ve designed a low profile removeable part above the right dropout. A Gates frame also needs the ability to tension the belt. For this we use horizontal drop outs that slide precisely in grooves on the frame. These have “chain tugs” adjusted with a hex socket to simplify rear wheel alignment and easily set the perfect belt tension. For correct operation of the Gates Carbon Drive a precise belt line is essential. Unlike a chain, the Carbon Drive cannot cope with any mis-alignment - only perfect frame alignment and a bottom bracket axle and rear axle perfectly in line will give trouble free operation and a long belt life life. Our close R&D partnership with the Gates company during the design of the Carbon Drive was the ideal way to bring this technology to the public. This means we can guarantee the perfect function of the system when used with a Nicolai frame. Okay … yes, you’ve got us … we employ human welders instead of robots. Robots do not have ears but we always keep our ears open to your ideas of how you wish your dream Argon to be. Our Argon CC 29er is in fact as unique as a Paris-Dakar race car. Riders with normal needs are better served by normal bikes with normal frames. But for a small range of applications the Argon CC 29 is unbeatable, for example, exclusive custom geometries and extreme racing applications. The rear end, made of rectangular VCS Lite profiles and several hollow machined and welded parts, makes the Argon able to accelerate by the slightest twitch of the rider’s muscles. The secret of this explosive performance is called HWT - Hollow Weld Technology. We build lightweight yet extremely durable aluminum frames. The geometry utilises the advantages of smooth-running 29-inch wheels yet maintains the agility of the 26 inch bikes. The RoCC version has slidable dropouts and can be operated with a hub gear or as single speed. And when the drivetrain is equipped with the Gates Carbon Drive you can finally say ‘goodbye’ to the derailleur. { 01 } Argon HWT yoke { 02 } 10mm Rohloff dropouts { 03 } headtube gusset and cable guide { 04 } HWT yoke and VCS light profile rear end
