If you’re able to dream, you’ll be capable of getting things done T he dream is not necessarily always positive. A dream may be something unattainable, something removed from reality. But it can also be a constant incentive to ourselves to overcome limits, to transform undoable into doable.

It was a dream that brought Markus Stemper, owner of a unique ARGON Pinion Road and Kai Gimmler, NICOLAI Premium Shop start up, together.

Markus Stemper, a hotel owner from Trier, had a bad motorcycle accident in 1999 leaving his left arm permanently damaged. A severed nerve in the shoulder caused a so-called “drop arm” which allows him only slight movements with the fingers but his arm muscles remain completely paralysed. Any notion of hobbies, including cycling, were pushed aside by trying to cope with the daily struggle, personally and professionally.

12 years later Kai Gimmler, an avid downhiller who had been through several apprenticeships, academic education programmes and down a number of career paths finally took the decision to open a bike shop. To achieve what he had always set his heart on, he successfully completed his Business Administration degree and his Master degree in bicycle mechanics and opened the doors of his own shop – carrying his name - in April 2011. About the same time Markus Stemper came to terms with his physical impairment and now thrives on both his work and also his freetime. He developed an unprecedented sporting ambition, something completely unknown to him before his accident. The desire to buy a tailor- made bike that was designed for his specific needs led him to Kai Gimmler bikes in Siersburg.

November 2012, after a long planning phase and an even longer production time

Kai Gimmler hands over a customized NICOLAI Argon Road Pinion to Markus Stemper. It’s the first road bike with an 18 speed Pinion gearbox from NICOLAI. Two dreams came together in one reality. Kai Gimmler has turned his passion for cycling into a vocation. He‘s become a NICOLAI Premium Dealer with heart and soul. Markus Stemper has just given word of another project; he‘s going into two years of intensive training with his dream bike in preparation for an Iron Man.

Without dreaming your achievements won‘t be able to fly.
