PREFACE 2013’s bike season was quite mad in terms of the weather. After a winter that lasted longer than the wait at the doctor’s, the month of May was wetter than a pub toilet floor. Finally summer raised its shiny head. Temperatures soared, giving us stunning weather. So what could be better than a long trail ride with and a dip in a lake? THE LOCATION The Felsenmeer (literally translates as “sea of rocks“) is situated in the Odenwald region, halfway between Heidelberg and Darmstadt. Its name promises a lot of rocks, but what about the refreshing dip? From the top of the Felsberg a gigantic rock field stretches over a width of 500 meters and a distance of about three kilometres, featuring a wide variety of rock formations on its way to the valley. This location with its sometimes seemingly impassable, sometimes flowing obstacles has always been one of my favourite routes to ride with my trials bike. It has everything you could possibly wish for as a mountain biker, and many bouldering specialists and climbers throw it down here too. sea of rocks
