Ein international bekannter Bike-Profi bekommt einen Haufen Geld, dafür darf ein Hersteller dess- sen Namen samt neuem Dekor auf einen seiner Rahmen pinseln. Beim NICOLAI 20 Zoll BMX Ro20 und dem 24 Zoll Cruiser Ro24 lief das etwas anders. KRC-NICOLAI Pilot Roger Rinderknecht ist ein Profi. Er kann nicht nur fahren und siegen, er weiß auch, was er unter sich bewegt. Er spürt und versteht, welche Auswirkungen eine Längenänderung der Kettenstreben, eine minimale Verlagerung des Schwerpunkts oder eine Lenkwinkeländerung um ein halbes Grade auf die Fahreigenschaften eines Rahmens haben. Vor allem weiß Roger was er will: Zwei Rennmaschinen zum Siegen. An uns lag es nun, diese zu bauen und das war wirk- lich nicht einfach. Bis Roger endlich abnickte verging ein drei viertel Jahr, in dem wir ihm einen Prototypen nach dem ande- ren gaben, sein Feedback bekamen und wieder hinter Fräse und Schweißgerät verschwanden. Das Endergebnis: Ein ultraleichter Easton Hauptrahmen, CNC gefrästes Steuerrohr, Kettenstreben und Yoke aus einem Bauteil in Hollow Weld Technologie gefertigt, ebenso wie das Sitzstreben-Yoke... und endlich die ultimative Race - Geometrie. Wir werden gelegent- lich gefragt, warum wir so einen Aufwand für eine kleine Niesche wie BMX betreiben. Ganz einfach, BMX ist keine Niesche sondern Formel 1 Sport, ebenso wie DH und 4X. Wer bei der letzten BMX WM in Valkenswaart, Holland war oder die BMX-Downhill Competition der letzen X-Games gesehen hat weiß, was wir meinen. Racers ready? Für die Holzhackerfraktion gibt es das RoHC mit mehr Fleisch auf den Rippen. Ein Mehrgewicht von etwa 500g muss in Kauf genomm- men werden. What is a signature frame? A world famous bike professional getting a whole lot of money from a company so it can paint brush his name together with a flashy design on one of its frames? Let's say that things went a different way for the NICOLAI 20" BMX Ro20 and 24" Cruiser Ro24. KRC-NICOLAI rider and European Cruiser champion Roger Rinderknecht is a professional. Not only can he race and win, but he also knows what is under him when doing so. He feels and understands the effects that slightly longer chainstays, any minimal displacement of the center of gravity or half a degree change in the head tube angle have on the riding properties of a frame. Above all Roger knows what he wants: two race machines to lead him to victory. Building them was our task, and it was not trivial. Over a nine month period we supplied Roger with one prototype after another until he was entirely satisfied with the results. It's been a long process but it has been worth it! The Ro20/24 has an ultralight Easton tubeset; CNC'ed head tube; CNC'ed whole chainstays and seatstays and a yoke assembly using our unique HTW (Hollow Weld Technology) parts. Finally we give the frame the ultimate race geometry. Should Roger think something needs to be modified we would build him a new prototype tomorrow! We are often asked: "Why put so much effort into niche products like BMX?" It is really sim- ple;BMX is not a small niche any more! Just ask the people who were at the last World Championships in Valkenswaart, Holland or those who have seen the BMX-Downhill competi- tion of the last X-Games. Racers ready?...
