WHERE ARE NICOLAI FRAMES PRODUCED?
All NICOLAI frames are handmade in Lübbrechtsen, Germany. For us, it is the only way to guarantee a high quality product. An additional benefit is the production cycle. It can be handled dynamic and flexible.

The frame size table is only intended as a guide.

HOW DO I MEASURE MY INSEAM?
1. First of all you need a folding rule and a level. If you are not having a level, no problem just use a normal book.
2. Take off your shoes and strip down naked. You can wear underpants. This sounds crazy to you? The reason for this is, that the fit of your pants can falsify the result of the measuring process.
3. Put the level between your legs and pull it up until it starts hurting. Note, that you should stand next to a wall or door, if you perform the same procedure with a book.
4. Make sure, that the level is parallel to the floor. Now, take your folding rule and measure from the ground untile the upper edge of your level. It is easier, if another person assists you.
5. That’ s it. The measured number is the length of your inseam.
DOES THE INSERTION DEPTH OF THE SEAT POST MATCH MY INSEAM?
As hydraulic dropper seat posts are getting more and more popular we are frequently asked about the correct insertion depth of the seat post into the seat tube. Most hydraulic seat posts have a length of 420mm but is this enough? Basically the seat post should at least reach the lower edge of the top tube at the seat tube/ top tube crossing. You should also add the shoe sole thickness and the saddle height to the calculation of your seat post length.
Here is a quick example for a Helius AC in size L:
Seat tube: 480mm
+ Crank arm length: 175mm
+ Seat post 420mm (Rock Shox Reverb Stealth)
+ Saddle height assembled on seat post: 20mm
– Seat tube overhang: 100mm
– Top tube diameter: 38mm (for all Nicolai frames)
– Pedal height: 9mm
= Max. Saddle extension: 948mm
Add these values and you get the maximum possible saddle extension of 953mm. Accordingly, a Helius AC in size L with 420mm seat post still fits riders with 920mm stride length perfectly.
HOW DEEP DO I HAVE TO MOUNT THE SEATPOST INTO THE SEATTUBE?
Your seatpost should be mount into the seattube until the height of the lower end of the top tube. So you can prevent potentional damage.
WHERE DO I FIND THE DEVICE MEASUREMENTS FOR EXAMPLE FOR THE SEATPOST DIAMETER, FORK REFERRING MEASUREMENT OF MY FRAME?
You can find all device measurements of our frames in its techsheet. The techsheets of the actual product range are placed on the product site. All our techsheets are deposited here.
HOW DO I ADJUST MY SHOCK CORRECTLY?
Since our shocks are supplied with special tunes matched to the frame, you only need to set a negative spring travel (Sag) of 25-30%. This gives you a good starting point for fine tuning the compression and rebound.

CAN YOU IN A 27.5 "NICOLAI FRAME ALSO SENSIBLY INSTALL 26 "WHEELS?
Theoretically, you can do that. However, we do not consider it sensible at all. Our frames are specifically designed and optimized for the respective wheel size. Using 26″ wheels in a 27.5″ frame lowers the bottom bracket considerably and the steering angle becomes steeper. This worsens the handling enormously.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE GEOMETRY OF THE REAR END WHEN ORDERING A CUSTOM FRAME?
Our rear ends are designed for best function. Especially with fullys, a consistent rear end is important for the suspension performance. A change to the rear end results only from a change in the main frame dimension. If you are interested in a custom frame, you can find more information and impressions here.
